It’s been a quiet month, hasn’t it? I apologize for that, especially when it comes to the lack of blog posts. Many of our staff members (myself included) have been unusually busy, to the point where we’ve had little time to keep up with the site.
For that reason, I’d like to do something different with our resolutions post this month. Rather than asking you guys about your goals/attempting to inspire you, I thought I’d talk about some of the things we’re planning in the months to come. Our goal as a community is to support each other as writers – I’m hoping we can work together on these changes, improvements that will benefit us all.
I had to put this on hold while I was busy with Camp NaNoWriMo, but I’ll be getting back to work on it in the near future. I’d like us to have a way to post our writing here on the site, whether that’s responses to writing prompts, original stories/poems/essays, or fanfiction. Nothing is more motivating than being able to share your work and receive feedback.
We were doing prompts for a while, but honestly, I was having trouble keeping up. I’m looking at easier, more intuitive ways to provide regular prompts, which will hopefully involve contributions from all of us (both prompt ideas and responses).
On that note, I’d like to do more site challenges as well. I think it would help us grow as a community if we had more activities that all (or at least most) of us are participating in. Right now, it often feels like we’re ships passing in the night – wouldn’t it be nice if we were traveling on the same boat?
(Side note: I know that metaphor is cheesy. What can I say? It’s 4 AM.)
PROMOTION, PROMOTION, PROMOTION
More than anything, we need new members. This includes regular members who will help us keep things active, and I’m also looking for additional staff to help with various aspects of the site. My goal is a busier forum, more frequent blog posts, plenty of folks to hang around in the chat room, etc. Honestly, it doesn’t matter how many other improvements we make – as long as there’s just a handful of us, there isn’t much room to grow.
I’m not planning on promoting until the writing archive goes live, as I’m hoping that’ll be a big draw. Either way though, I’ll need your help, whether that’s advertising on social media (especially Tumblr and/or Twitter), inviting people from fanfiction sites (author’s notes are great for this), or reaching out to writers you know personally.
Soon, I’ll open a forum thread to discuss our promotional activities. I hope all of you will be willing to pitch in, whether that’s offering ideas or doing some of your own promotion. I know this takes a bit of effort, but having new and exciting faces around here really will benefit us all.

What can you do in the meantime? Just be as active as possible on the site. Respond to blog posts, forum threads, start threads of your own. Spend a minute or two on Google and find some valuable writing related content you can share, talk about a book you’ve been reading recently, or even start some silly little off topic thread. The more active we are/the more content we have to offer, the easier it will be to draw new people in. Let’s do what we can to make this place fun for everyone, yeah?
Meanwhile, I’ll keep working on the technical stuff, and of course, I am always, always open to suggestions. If you have any ideas for site improvements, please don’t hesitate to let me know!
Let’s make this our goal for the rest of the year. We’ll keep working toward our personal writing goals, of course, but let’s also resolve to grow and improve as a community.
Who’s with me? 🙂
